FridgeMealsAI ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the FridgeMealsAI mobile application.

By using FridgeMealsAI, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Account Information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from the identity provider. We store your email and user ID in our database to identify your account. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

Health & Goal Data

To generate personalized calorie targets and meal suggestions, we collect the following information that you voluntarily provide:

• Height and weight
• Target weight and weight goal (e.g., lose, maintain, gain)
• Age and biological gender
• Activity level (sedentary to very active)

This data is stored in your account profile and used solely to calculate your daily calorie and macro targets (TDEE). It is never sold or shared with advertisers.

Health Platform Data (Optional)

If you choose to connect Apple Health (iOS) or Google Health Connect (Android), FridgeMealsAI may read the following data from your device's health platform:

• Active calories burned — used to adjust your daily calorie target based on today's activity
• Biological sex, age, height, and weight — used to pre-fill your health profile if not already set

This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party. It is used solely for local calorie target calculations. Connecting to Apple Health or Google Health Connect is optional and can be disabled at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → FridgeMealsAI; Android: Settings → Health Connect → App permissions).

Ingredients & Recipes

The ingredients you enter and the recipes you save are stored on your device (free users) or in your cloud account (Pro subscribers). When you request AI recipe generation, your ingredient list is sent to our backend to produce recipe suggestions.

Camera & Photos

When you use the fridge scanning feature (Pro only), photos you take are sent to our backend for ingredient recognition. Photos are processed immediately and are not permanently stored on our servers.

When you describe food for calorie analysis, the text description is sent to our backend for nutritional analysis. No personal health records are created from this data.

Subscription & Purchase Data

Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status (active, expired, trial) but do not process or store your payment card details. Payment is handled entirely by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play.

Advertising Data (Free Users Only)

If you use the free tier, Google AdMob may display banner ads and rewarded video ads. AdMob collects device identifiers and usage data to serve ads, subject to Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.

Usage Data

We may collect anonymized data about how you use the app (screens visited, features used, errors encountered) to improve the product. This data cannot be linked to your identity.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

• To authenticate you and maintain your account
• To generate AI-powered recipe suggestions based on your ingredients
• To calculate your daily calorie targets and macro goals
• To sync your saved recipes across devices (Pro subscribers)
• To verify ad views and unlock additional recipe generations
• To process your subscription and enforce feature access
• To send you optional local push notifications (e.g., daily cooking reminders) — you can disable these in your device settings at any time
• To improve app performance and fix bugs

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

3. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the third-party services required to operate the app:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, and backend functions. Data processed in the United States. Privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
• Apple Health / Google Health Connect — optional on-device health data platform. Data read from these platforms is never sent to our servers. Apple privacy policy: apple.com/privacy; Google privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
• Groq — AI model provider that processes your ingredient lists and food descriptions to generate recipes and nutritional data. Data is not retained after processing. Privacy policy: groq.com/privacy
• Google Gemini — fallback AI provider used when Groq is unavailable. Same usage as Groq.
• RevenueCat — subscription management. Receives your app user ID and subscription events. Privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
• Google AdMob — advertising (free tier only). Collects advertising identifiers for ad delivery. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
• Apple / Google Play — handle all payment processing for subscriptions. We never see your payment details.

All third-party providers are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for their own marketing.

4. DATA STORAGE & RETENTION

Your account data (profile, health goals, saved recipes) is stored in Google Firebase servers located in the United States and retained for as long as your account is active.

Local data (ingredient history, cooking session state, favorites for free users) is stored on your device only and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data from our servers within 30 days. Some anonymized, non-identifiable data may be retained for analytics.

5. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
• Deletion — request that your personal data be deleted
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
• Opt-out of personalized advertising — use your device's advertising settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Google → Ads)
• Withdraw consent — you can stop using the app and request account deletion at any time

6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

FridgeMealsAI is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. SECURITY

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

• All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
• AI API keys are stored in Firebase Secret Manager and are never exposed in the app
• Firestore security rules restrict access so users can only read and write their own data
• Ad reward verification uses ECDSA cryptographic signatures (AdMob SSV) to prevent spoofing

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. For significant changes, we will notify you through the app. Your continued use of FridgeMealsAI after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
